The Joint Astronomy Centre has historically operated two telescopes on the summit of Mauna
Kea: the James
Clerk Maxwell Telescope and the United
Kingdom Infrared Telescope.
UKIRT was transferred to the University of Hawaii (UH) on 31st October 2014,
and is now operated by a new partnership between the University of Arizona and Lockheed Martin Space Systems

A process is in place for transferring the JCMT to UH ownership on 31st January 2015, at which point it
will be operated by a new entity called the East Asian Observatory. News of this process is in the
