Object Name.............. :
Leaving a query field blank is essentially the same as putting a wildcard in that query field. If nothing is specified in a field, all values in that field may be returned. The searching mechanism is NOT case sensitive, so uppercase and lowercase characters may be used interchangeably in a search. Although case is ignored, all searches ARE for an exact match, unless special operands (summarized below) are used.
This is particularly important when specifying an Object Name on the Common form. A search without the name resolver for the object BS4030 will not return anything if the name is stored in the database as BS 4030 (note the space). In order to catch both of these, the query should be specified with a wildcard as BS*4030. (If the SIMBAD name resolver is being used, however, the * wildcard may not be used in the object name.)
BS4030
BS 4030
BS*4030
The * wildcard character, and some other useful operands are summarized below:
*
<
>
<=
>=
!=
..
|
OR
So for example : To select all exposures that started between the first of January and the fifteenth of February you could enter :
Date (UT)..................... : yyyy-mmm-dd
Some fields have a fixed set of allowable values from which you can choose. Instrument(s)............... : ALL CGS4 IRCAM3
These fields normally have a default value of "ALL" which means : Accept all values in this field.
In order to to submit your request press the "Search" button. If you want to reset all the fields back to the way they were before you started entering qualifiers in them, press the "Reset" button. (You could try to edit the "Date" field above and then press the "Reset" button).

There will typically be one or more columns where the values have hypertext links. The values in the More column will lead you to a full-screen version of the corresponding row, with additional information available. The Inst. column links will take you to a screen with instrument-specific information for the row. The Log column links bring up the operator's log data for the day of the observation. Try them out !
In the Common table, the leftmost column contains checkboxes which allow you to mark which datasets you would like to request. When you have selected all of the suitable datasets in this manner, you may click on the Request Marked Datasets button to file your request with UKIRT staff. All requests are processed as quickly as possible.
Request Marked Datasets
Each field in the query form is prepended with a checkbox, which indicates whether the field should be included in tabular output or not. This checkbox is not selected, so the corresponding field would not be included in the tabular output. This checkbox is selected so the corresponding field would be included in the tabular output.
Note: The checkboxes have nothing to do with which fields are used as search parameters. All fields that have input are used to do the search. If you do not want to use a field in the search, leave it blank.
Use full-screen output even if more than one row is returned. Return max rows.
On the Common form there is also a checkbox which allows you to automatically mark all returned datasets. (If a query returns a large number of datasets, it is time consuming to mark them one at a time.)
Mark all returned datasets by default.
